Meet Steve Hupp, a serial bank robber turned Ayahuasca Shaman we had the honor to interview.
After getting caught robbing his 17th bank, Steve ended up in federal prison. During his time there he met a Peruvian Shaman named Guadalupe, who was in prison for an expired Visa. Although Steve's initial plan was to rob him, they became good friends and during their time in prison Guadalupe explained the powers of Ayahuasca, but Hupp didn't think much of it. Then one day, after both were free men, Steve received a package from Guadeloupe with a two liter bottle marked dog shampoo that contained the Amazonian brew. And this is where his transformation began.
Inspired by the healing powers of this psychedlic, Hupp and his wife set up a "church" deep in the Bible Belt of Kentucky, which offers Ayahuasca ceremonies. Kentucky Ayahuasca church attracts people from all over the country seeking healing from all manners of afflictions, including PTSD, depression, addiction, and trauma resulting from physical or emotional abuse. Hupp even has his own 10 episode docu-series about his ceremonies on Vice and Hulu, where you can see firsthand the healing powers of this brew.
Never in a million years did we expect to find such inspiration and profound wisdom from an ex-convict but that's the beautiful thing about psychedlics...any one of us at any given moment has the power to change and heal.
